The Yale University Art Gallery (Kahn Building)

The Yale University Art Gallery was designed by architect Louis I. Kahn in 1953.  It was his first high profile commissioned work and considered by many to be his first “masterpiece.”  The building represents a radical departure from art museum design for its time, breaking away from windowless (and imposing) neo-Gothic buildings and instead opting for an open and adaptable floor-plan.  One of the most pronounced details is the buildings tetrahedral interior ceiling pattern, which serves aesthetic and practical purposes (the shapes house the electrical and ventilation systems)
